Aikido of Los Angeles, offers the following classes in the Japanese Budo (martial way) of Aikido, and related disciplines.

Adult Aikido                Aikido is both a defensive martial art that emphasizes maintaining

a centered, calm state of mind, in order to use an attackers’ weight

and momentum against them, without panicking or over-reacting.

The techniques of aikido often involve the application of joint

locks and circular motion, and typically end an encounter with a

throw or pin.  It also a martial way, or “budo,” with a deep spiritual

dimension, that seeks, through practice, nothing less than to bring

the practitioner into accord with the energy of the universe, and

transform, “the sword that kills,” into “the sword that gives life.”

Instructors: Appolline Couprie-Sensei. Adult Aikido Classes are held Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:00 AM, Thursday nights from 8:00-900 PM, and Friday evenings from 6:30-7:30 PM.

Aikido for Kids            A special class offered one day a week.  Aikido’s paired partner

practice teaches children the importance of cooperation and

teamwork.  Learning to roll and fall safely, helps children develop

their coordination and motor skills, and strengthens their bodies

without undue strain on their joints.  Perhaps most important,

aikido teaches children to react calmly in the face of aggression,

and thus becomes a powerful aid in the formation of character,

self-discipline and self-confidence.

Instructor: Appolline Couprie-Sensei.  The Aikido for Kids Class is held on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 PM.

Hatha Yoga                  Based on centuries old Hindi spiritual practice, hatha yoga, is

an exercise regime that incorporates slow stretches, breathing and

relaxation techniques. It provides a means for people of any age

not only to get and stay in shape but also to develop balance,

coordination, and a sense of centeredness. It renews, invigorates,

and heals the body - stretching and toning the muscles, joints, and

spine and directing blood and oxygen to the internal organs

(including the glands and nerves).

Instructor: Jason Yves. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00-8:30 AM (in the fall and winter months) and 8:00-9:30 AM (in the spring and summer months). Tuition is $80/month. For information call 818 605-4557.
